  • How do I write and translate my self-talk?

    Tap "Build a new self-talk," then write a few lines (aim for around fifty words) in your strongest language. On the Translate step, pick Spanish, French, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, or German — the translation happens on your device.

  • Why does the other language feel hard to read?

    That's the point. Effort is what makes you actually hear the sentence. Familiar phrases get skimmed; ones your mouth has to work for get heard. If it feels frictionless, the practice isn't doing its job.

  • What's the difference between Karaoke and Breathe?

    They're two ways to practice the same sentence. Karaoke lights up each word the moment the voice reaches it. Breathe wraps the whole sentence in a slow, pulsing aura. A slower version, Karaoke+, unlocks at 100★.

  • How do I change the voice?

    On the Voice step in a session, choose Marisol (warm, steady), Diego (grounded, low), or Warm — a softer voice that unlocks at 10★.

  • The speech sounds robotic — can I fix it?

    Sottosay uses Apple's built-in speech, which sounds best with Apple's Enhanced or Premium voices. Open iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, choose your language, and download an Enhanced or Premium voice. It will sound much more natural next time.

  • Does my progress sync or back up?

    Yes. By default, your practice history syncs through your own iCloud (CloudKit), so it follows you across your devices and survives reinstalling the app, as long as you're signed into the same iCloud account. You can turn iCloud sync off in Settings — then your progress stays only on that device.

  • Does it track me or send my data anywhere?

    No. There's no analytics, no ads, no third parties, and no developer server. Your words and translations are produced on your device; your practice records stay on your device and only sync to your own private iCloud (unless you turn that off). See the privacy policy for the full story.

  • What do stars and unlocks do?

    You earn one star for each day you practice. Reaching milestones unlocks extras: the Warm voice (10★), the Moonlight theme (25★), a Care mantra pack (50★), and the slower Karaoke+ (100★).

  • How much does it cost?

    Free. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads.
